The Secret Of Making True Rose Perfume
You will learn the best way to make rose perfume (and other botanicals), but it isn't from rose petals!
Most people think that rose petals and vodka are the way to go to make rose perfume. Well... I've tried it. It is a romantic idea, but it doesn't actually work that well. You either get weakly-scented rose tonic or a soggy mess of brown petals.
Rose Absolute
The real method is to use rose absolute, which is like an essential oil, but much stronger. Absolute is a concentrated rose essence which you dilute to make perfume.
Instead of vodka, you must use perfuming alcohol, which is only found in a few places online. Vodka is only 40% alcohol, which isn't strong enough to dilute thick oils and absolutes. Your perfume will separate.
Isn't It Expensive?
Yes, but you don't need a lot of rose absolute. In the book, I demonstrate making a 1/3 ounce toilette spray. I only use about $2 worth of rose absolute, and it is a nice strength. Best of all, it smells like true, growing roses!
In "The Fast Guide To Making Perfume," you will see this process in photos. I also have links to the best suppliers of both perfuming alcohol, essential oils, and absolutes (not just rose.)
In fact, you can use this technique to make any botanical perfume - orange flower, lavender, carnation, pink lotus...
